James is Citi’s Country Officer for the UK, Cluster Head for the UK, Jersey and Israel and the Chief Executive of Citigroup Global Markets Limited (UK SMF1). James co-chaired Citi’s Brexit contingency planning and implementation work and is a member of Citi’s LIBOR Transition Program and is the designated UK Senior Manager for LIBOR. In connection with these changes, he is a supervisory board member of Citigroup Global Markets Europe AG in Frankfurt and a Director of Citibank UK Limited. James was Co-head of Citi’s Corporate and Investment Banking business for EMEA from 2009 to 2014 and is currently a Vice Chairman of EMEA Banking, Capital Markets & Advisory. James has been with the firm for 34 years and is a Business Senior Credit Officer. James is the Chairman of the British Banking Association and member of TheCityUK Advisory Council and was until recently a Board member of UK Finance, where he continues to chair the Capital Markets and Wholesale Board and the Banking Standards Board. He also sits on The Financial Markets Standards Board Advisory Council. Prior to joining Citi, he worked as an engineer and in marketing for GKN plc. He graduated with first class double honours degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Economics from the University of Birmingham, England in 1986 and completed the Corporate Finance Programme at London Business School in 1988. James chairs the Citi UK Networks Group and is a member of the 30% Club. He is Chairman and a trustee of the Coggeshall Youth Work Project, a Trustee and Deputy Chairman of the UK Career Ready charity, helping less privileged young people increase their aspirations and enter the world of work, and sits on the Teach First Business Leaders Council. He also co-chairs the Canary Wharf Multifaith Chaplaincy. James is married to Sophie and has four children. He is a competitive sailor and loves skiing and playing tennis regularly and he enjoys reading, cooking and mending things.
